How to Eat Cheap While Traveling

You have booked your hotel and bought the plane tickets, and you're patting yourself on the back because you've gotten such great deals on everything. However, the next biggest expense after transportation and accommodations while you're traveling can easily be food. It is expensive to eat out at restaurants for every meal. You could bring a stack of coupons for national chains or eat off the value menu at Wendy's and Taco Bell, but there are other ways to eat cheap--and healthy--while you're on the road.

1

If you're traveling by plane, pack small non-perishable items such as packets of instant oatmeal, granola bars, and packages of crackers and cheese or crackers and peanut butter in your checked luggage. You should also include a few fruit and grain bars or baggies of nuts and trail mix in your carry on luggage. If it will be a short flight, baby carrots or pieces of fruit such as berries or apple slices are also an option for your purse or backpack. You will appreciate having something nutritious and tasty with you when everyone else on the plane is choking down airline pretzels.

2

If you're traveling by car, pack a small cooler or an insulated lunch bag. These make perishable items easier to bring along. Instead of packing sandwiches, which can get soggy during a trip, opt for small plastic containers of pasta salad (oil and vinegar based may be a better option than mayonnaise-based), individually wrapped string cheese sticks, fruit, good quality dark chocolate, and possibly deli-cut lunch meats. In a separate bag, pack items that don't require cooling. Consider items such as dinner rolls, nuts, dried fruit, cheese crackers, pretzels, and other snack foods. Between these two containers, you have the makings of a gourmet picnic lunch plus half a dozen snacks.

3

Once at your destination, take advantage of any free food you're offered. Many hotels offer muffins, donuts, juice, and coffee for breakfast, and some even offer waffles or French Toast. Don't feel guilty if you'd like to splurge on a nice egg and sausage breakfast once while on vacation. But, you should keep an open mind about eating breakfast at the hotel. There's a stereotype that hotel breakfasts are of poor quality. But you may be surprised at how nice breakfast offerings can be at even modest hotels. Unless it's explicitly against the rules, you can often bring a muffin or piece of fruit back to your hotel for a bedtime snack as well.

4

Check with the concierge to see if there are other options for free or inexpensive food. Some hotels offer free energy drinks or fruit inside their fitness center. Almost all hotels and resorts have coupon booklets that provide 10 to 20 percent off meals or drinks at nearby restaurants. It's part of the hotel job's staff to provide information about local restaurants and attractions, so if you're on a budget, don't hesitate to ask for recommendations for inexpensive local Mom and Pop restaurants or good coupon deals.

5

Consider buying one or two meals from a local supermarket instead of eating out at a restaurant for every meal. Often, the deli at a local supermarket can provide you with sandwiches, salads, chips, and beverages for half of what you'd pay if you bought the same meal at a restaurant. It's easy to make healthy choices when you buy from a supermarket. You'll be walking right past the produce aisle, so it's easy to pop a few pieces of fresh fruit into your basket for dessert instead of filling up on ice cream or cheesecake.

How to Keep a Travel Trailer Cooler

When it comes to camping, a travel trailer can be a lot of fun. It hooks right up to a car, truck or SUV, gets pulled to the campsite and the moment it is unloaded, voila, instant camping shelter. Because travel trailers are made primarily of aluminum or steel, however, they can get quite hot during the summer months. Here are some tips on how to keep a travel trailer cooler when the hot weather hits.

1 Hook up a portable air conditioner. A portable air conditioner is a stand-alone unit that blows cold air. There is an arm that extends outside of the window and expels any water or condensation. Simply plug in the portable air conditioner and the travel trailer will be cool in no time.

2 Park the travel trailer under a shady tree. The tree can provide shade from the blistering sun. The leaf cover will help keep the trailer cooler.

3 Run fans inside the travel trailer. A couple of fans cross blowing the air can add a nice cool feeling inside.

4 Open the windows. This is especially good to do at night if the trailer has heated up during the day. Just leave the screens over the windows to stop bugs from getting inside.

5 Hang a tarp above the trailer. Using rope, hang a tarp above the travel trailer to stop sun from beating down on the trailer's exterior. The deflection of the sun will keep the travel trailer cooler.

6 Depending on the materials from which your trailer is made, painting the outside with a radiant-barrier paint to reflect the sun's rays could keep it cooler. Check with your local paint supply store to see what might be available.

How to Obtain a Travel Agent License in India

Obtaining a travel agent license in India is no different from travel agent accreditation in the rest of the world. Many travel agents register with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in order to gain the authority for selling air tickets directly. There's no specific license for becoming a travel agent in India. Registering with the IATA, however, will grant your business specific advantages with regards to the products you can sell.

1 Abide by Indian laws and regulations if your business is a new start-up. The regulations differ by the size of your company and by region. A business consultancy that specializes in new business start-ups can assist you in dealing with any bureaucratic hurdles.

2 Download and complete the application form for new travel agents from the IATA website. Information regarding yourself, as well as the legal status of your company is required. The form may be completed online and printed off.

3 Send the completed application form, proofs of identity, company documents (such as articles of association), certified balance sheets, signed passenger agency agreement, and proof of payment of the application fee to the IATA head office. The specific documents required and application fee varies depending on the size and legal structure of your travel agency.

How to Clean an OXO Good Grips Travel Mug

OXO International, Ltd. designs and manufactures many multi-user and ergonomic home and travel items including the Good Grips line of travel mugs. Different OXO travel mug designs, whether with or without handles, share common features such as double-wall plastic or stainless steel body and triple silicone seal locking system to make use and cleaning easier. As a result, the cleaning process for Good Grips travel mugs across designs is the same—a basic washing technique that many people use for cleaning regular dishes: hand washing of the individual travel mug pieces.

1 Press the button on top of your OXO Good Grips travel mug to the open position.

2 Remove the lid. Typically, this requires turning the lid in a counterclockwise direction. Pour any liquid in the mug down a drain.

3 Apply a few drops of mild detergent to damp, lint-free microfiber cloth and wipe the interior and exterior surfaces of the pieces—lid, cup and handle (if applicable)—to remove beverage residues and any dirt or other substances on the exterior of the pieces. If your travel mug has stains, fill a sink or basin with warm water and enough detergent to make the water sudsy. Soak the pieces in the wash water for 20 minutes and then wipe with a microfiber cloth.

4Rinse the pieces thoroughly and then wipe dry with a clean cloth or place in a dish rack to air-dry.

How to Sedate a Cat for Travel

As a cat owner, you have limited options when it comes to moving or taking a prolonged vacation with your pet. While fabricated sedatives are available from your veterinarian, they are not recommended for traveling cats due to complications. Natural sedatives, such as catnip and pheromone sprays, can help calm your cat during travel.

1 Purchase some catnip or a feline pheromone spray from your local pet shop. Catnip is a known natural sedative for cats when eaten. Certain pheromone sprays, such as Feliway, reduce stress levels in cats naturally and help them relax. While catnip can stimulate cats when sniffed, cats will usually sniff the cat nip, rub around in it, and then eat it. When the cat eats the catnip, the cat will become slightly sedated.

2 Spray the inside of your cat's carrier with the pheromone spray. Spray each corner once; do this roughly 15 minutes before you intend to leave. Sprinkle some catnip into the corners of your cat's carrier.

3 Place the cat carrier as low to the floor as possible to reduce sensory stimulation. Keep the temperature at a moderate level during your travels. Consider playing low music.

4 Stop periodically during your journey to supply your cat with food and water. Add more catnip and pheromone spray every five hours. When you reach your destination, spray the pheromone spray and sprinkle more catnip around your destination to further facilitate your cat's reaction to the new place.
